Introduction
SambaSync is developed by Nectar Mobile Development. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and use. The short version: we don't collect any of your data.
Information We Collect
We do not collect any personal information or user data.
SambaSync operates entirely on your device. We do not have servers that collect, store, or process your information. The app does not track your usage, does not collect analytics, and does not transmit any data to us or any third parties.
Data Storage
All configuration data (such as your NAS connection details, folder selections, and upload preferences) is stored locally on your device only. This information never leaves your device and is never transmitted to Nectar Mobile Development or any third party.
Your files are uploaded directly from your device to your own network storage (NAS) that you configure. We have no access to these files, your network credentials, or any information about what you upload.
How the App Works
SambaSync creates a direct connection between your mobile device and your network storage. All file transfers happen locally on your network between your device and your NAS. No data passes through our servers because we don't have any servers for this application.
Third-Party Services
SambaSync does not use any third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or data collection tools. The app is distributed through the Google Play Store, which has its own privacy policy and data collection practices independent of SambaSync.
Permissions
SambaSync requires certain Android permissions to function. None of these permissions are used to collect, store, or transmit your personal data to us or any third party. All data remains on your device or is transferred directly to your own network storage.
Location Permissions
- Precise Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): Required by Android to identify WiFi networks. This is used solely to determine which WiFi network you are connected to, allowing the app to sync only when connected to your home/office network where your NAS is located. Your location is never recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere.
- Background Location (ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION): Allows the app to check your WiFi network when performing scheduled background syncs. This ensures uploads only occur when you're on the correct network, even when the app is not actively open. Your location is never tracked or stored.
Note: Android requires location permission to access WiFi network information for privacy reasons, as WiFi networks can be used to infer location. SambaSync only uses this to read the network name (SSID) and does not use, store, or transmit your actual geographic location.
Storage Permissions
- Read External Storage (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): To access files on your device that you want to upload to your NAS.
- Write External Storage (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): To manage files during the sync process.
- Manage External Storage (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Required on newer Android versions to access files across your device for backup purposes.
Network Permissions
- Internet (INTERNET): To establish connections to your SMB/CIFS network storage.
- Access Network State (ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): To check if a network connection is available before attempting to sync.
- Access WiFi State (ACCESS_WIFI_STATE): To identify the current WiFi network and ensure syncing happens on the correct network.
Background Operation Permissions
- Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE): To keep the sync process running reliably while uploading files.
- Foreground Service - Data Sync (FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC): Required by Android 14 and later to declare that the foreground service is specifically used for data synchronization (transferring files between your device and your network storage). This is a type qualifier for the Foreground Service permission above.
- Schedule Exact Alarm (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM): Allows the app to schedule syncs at the exact time you configure (e.g., "daily at 2:00 AM"). Without this, Android may defer your scheduled syncs by hours, especially while the device is sleeping. This permission is only used for sync scheduling and nothing else.
- Wake Lock (WAKE_LOCK): To prevent the device from sleeping during file uploads.
- Receive Boot Completed (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): To restore scheduled sync tasks after your device restarts.
- Request Ignore Battery Optimizations (REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS): To request that scheduled syncs are not interrupted by battery saving features. When granted, this allows your scheduled syncs to run reliably even when your phone is in deep sleep or battery saving mode.
Notification Permission
- Post Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): To show you progress updates during file syncs and notify you when syncs complete or encounter errors.
All permissions are used solely for the app's core functionality and not for data collection of any kind.
Children's Privacy
Because we do not collect any data, SambaSync does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is suitable for all ages from a privacy perspective.
Your Rights
Since we don't collect any data about you, there is no data for you to access, modify, or delete from our systems. All app data is stored locally on your device and can be cleared by uninstalling the app or clearing the app's data through your device settings.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our data collection practices, we will update this Privacy Policy and update the "Last Updated" date. Any changes will be posted on this page. We recommend checking this page periodically for any updates.
