CoopScoop

Effective Date: October 2, 2026 · Last Updated: October 2, 2026

The Short Version

  • No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
  • If you don't turn on household sharing, your flock records stay on your phone.
  • If you turn on household sharing, your household's records and photos are stored on our sync service so the people you invite can see them.
  • You can leave or delete a household at any time, and export or delete your data.

Who We Are

CoopScoop is developed by Nectar Mobile Development ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the CoopScoop Android app ("the App") and its optional household sync service.

Without Household Sharing

Your birds, eggs, chores, health records, finances, notes, hatching records, and photos are stored only on your phone. The App does not send them anywhere. If you use Android's own device backup, or save a CoopScoop backup or CSV export to a place you choose, that copy goes where you sent it, and we never see it.

Location. If you tap "Use my location," the App uses your approximate location once, on your phone, to work out sunrise and sunset times for coop door reminders. Only the coordinates are kept, on your phone. They are never sent to us.

Camera and photos. Photos you take or choose in the App are stored in the App's private storage. Location information embedded in photos is removed when they are saved.

With Household Sharing

When you create or join a household, the following are sent to and stored on our household sync service (sync.nectarmobile.dev):

  • Your display name (for example, "Dad"), which other members of your household can see.
  • Your flock records: birds, eggs, chores and completions, health records, finances, notes, hatching records, and household settings.
  • Photos: a compressed copy (about 150 KB) of the photos you add, with location information removed. Photo copies are stored on Amazon Web Services (S3) on our behalf and accessed through short-lived signed links.
  • A device token that identifies your phone to the service and, if your phone has Google Play services, a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can send household notifications to your phone.

We use this information only to provide household sharing: keeping each phone in your household in sync and sending household notifications. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone outside your household except the service providers listed below. Only people invited to your household with a one-time code can see your household's data.

Service Providers

  • Google Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers notifications to your phone.
  • Amazon Web Services (S3) stores compressed photo copies.
  • GitHub. If syncing fails repeatedly, the App reads a public status file from raw.githubusercontent.com to tell you whether our service is down. No information about you is sent. GitHub sees only your IP address, as with any web request.

All network traffic between the App and these services uses HTTPS.

What We Do Not Collect

  • No email address, phone number, or password
  • No advertising identifier, analytics, or crash-reporting data
  • No contacts, messages, or browsing history
  • No location data leaves your phone

Children

CoopScoop is intended for adults. A parent or guardian may invite their child to a household with a kid role, which can log eggs and complete chores but cannot delete records or manage the household. A kid's display name is set by the parent, and we suggest a first name or nickname. We do not knowingly collect any other information from children.

How Long We Keep Data

  • Leave a household: Settings → Household → Leave. Your phone is disconnected from the household.
  • Delete a household (admins): Settings → Household → Delete. Access ends immediately, and the household's data is permanently erased from our service within 30 days.
  • End of the App's supported life: if we discontinue CoopScoop, we will post a notice on this website at least 90 days ahead, and then delete the data held by our sync service. Data on your phone is not affected. See the Terms & Conditions.
  • Data on your phone: remove it by uninstalling the App, or by choosing "Start fresh" when leaving a household.
  • Export: you can export your records to CSV or a backup file at any time.

Security

Your device token is stored encrypted on your phone using Android's keystore and is never included in backups. Our service stores only a hash of each device token and join code. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date above and post the new policy on this page.
